Evidence Based Leadership

This 24 hour course is appropriate for middle and senior level public safety leaders from probation, parole, and institutional management including jails and juvenile facilities.  Participants will examine a contemporary leadership milieu with an emphasis on supporting change through influential relationships.  Examples of effective and ineffective leadership styles from historical and contemporary figures will be presented to assist participants in developing and honing their own sense of leadership.  Evidence Based Practices in the field of community corrections and institutional management will be examined. 

Ethical leadership including group exercises using real-life scenarios will support the participant’s understanding of the leader’s critical role in setting the appropriate ethical tone of an organization.  Managing and minimizing the common risks germane to all law enforcement will be discussed, as well as applying the Community Oriented Policing model to community and institutional corrections.  Participants will also discuss the importance of peer support programs.
